I’ve mentioned in several of the recipes that I’ve posted that the meals that I cook are nearly exclusively vegetarian.
This is for three reasons:
1. My former girlfriend of three years didn’t eat red meat or fish.
2. I don’t like preparing white meat.
3. Other then in Sushi, I don’t like fish.
So, we ended up living on a diet of processed meat products and vegetables, although we both tended to eat meat dishes that we liked when we went out. It wasn’t really very healthy in the long run, hence why after we broke up, my dishes started to place an emphasis on healthy eating.
But there has been this nagging voice in the back of my mind for the past few weeks suggesting that I have a go at living a purely vegetarian lifestyle.
There are loads of reasons why I could justify it: economics, ethics, environmentalism, religion, health.
But despite all those good arguments, I’m just doing it for the hell of it. I like eating meat, I like eating vegetables but I want to see what it’s like being a full time veggie.
There are a few exceptions – since I’m doing this for the hell of it, then I don’t see any need to go full hog and give up animal related produce. I’ll still be eating cheese, beer, wine, gelatine, eggs and milk, although who knows, I might give some of them up eventually as well.
Anyway, here’s the deal – I have until Monday 19th to finish up the meat products in my fridge and from then until Sunday 1st of March, I’m going to walk the path of the vegetarian, with occasional updates as to my progress. It probably won’t be that interesting, so I don’t think I’ll be updating that often (unless meat cravings take over too much or I find myself buying meat by accident).
PS. One other rule: Just to up the challange, I’m going to be avoiding fake meats like Quorn. Tofu is still cool though because it’s not trying to be meat.
