So, I start writing a post weighing in on the “old school” issue, when all of a sudden I realise I’m basing my arguments around an assumption. Namely, the assumption that the core video games market is now the 15-30 age group while the core RPG market is the 25-50 age group.
This assumption reflects what I have seen on RPG Bloggers Network – no offence to the older contingent, but us youngsters seem to be in a minority. I believe this reflects the growth of the home console market in the early 00s, when teens stopped spending their pocket money on RPG books and started spending it on videogames.
So, in an effort to prove or disprove my theory, I’d like to ask you to take a moment to click the poll to the left of this post. It asks how long you have been gaming for, which I thought was a less personal then asking for ages (such questions are ungentlemanly
).
Thanks for taking the time to vote, and if you would like to leave any comments agreeing or disagreeing with my theory, I’d be grateful to hear them, and they will influence a post coming next week.
Update: Comments are now closed on this post. Thanks for all the help.
