Dark Heresy RP Help Needed – Critique My Character Bio!

Due to various factors, I missed out of spending my youth enacting grand battles with Space Marines and Orks and such like. It’s a bit of shame, because while the Warhammer 40k universe is a bit straight forward, it seems to be very good fun to mess about it. You can have all sorts of fun running around as a state sanctioned psychopath.

In fact just last week, my assassin was attempting a cult infiltration wearing a costume made of corpses. This was followed by what can only be described as an altercation which resulted in another party member sacrificing me in return for a pact with a Chaos Demon. Probably just as well however, since I had just preformed a ritual sacrifice as part of the infiltration and probably due some serious time in my Inquisitor’s Cathedral of Pain.

I’d been due to roll up a new character away. Using the “roll for complete creation” process in the Dark Heresy rulebook, I ended up having two career paths vetoed (Cleric because we have two already and Psyker because they are pretty overpowered), and finally rolling a Tech-Priest (subject to GM approval on Tuesday). My one problem with the Tech-Priest is that the standard template Tech-Priest is a multi-limbed cyborg, which doesn’t really help matters in an infiltration or really any situation which requires discretion. So, I’ve had an idea for a character background for a minamalist Tech-Priest who has been sent to the Inquisition to have some sense knocked into him.

My knowledge of the 40k universe isn’t that great. I want to know if I can get away with this character before I take it to the GM next week, because I don’t fancy having to reroll or rewrite the bio on the fly. So, ladies and gentlemen of Imperium, in the name of the Machine Spirit and the Emperor, I present you with my character bio for critique.

I know it’s not particularly well written, but I’m look for ways in which it does and does not fit in with Warhammer lore rather then ways to improve my writing ;)

Tybalt Kahn, Electro-Priest of the Adeptus Mechanicus, Devotee of the Omnissiah

Born on the largely unpopulated agri-world of Tyr’s Basket, Tybalt Kahn’s earliest memories are of tending his parent’s algae vats, creating the raw material for Imperial Guard rations. From a young age, he demonstrated a startling inquisitiveness and rapport with the Machine Spirits present in the vats. This attracted the attention of the the planet’s resident (and eccentric) Genator-Seer, Seer Partisious, who took the 7 year old boy to work as an apprentice.

By the age of ten, it was clear that Tybalt’s talents did not lie with the maintenance of the algae culture geneseeds, and his thirst for knowledge had pushed the the poor Seer to the limits of his knowledge. Dispatched on a passing Imperial Guard supply fleet which stopped for ration packs at Tyr’s Hand, Tybalt was sent to the nearby minor Forge Orbital of Ma’Guant, a Laz weapon manufactory.

Tybalt prospered on Ma’Guant. His devotion to the Omniassiah and to the quest for knowledge were clear from his continual search for information, constant tinkering with machines and desire to hunt from missing portions of the Standard Template Construct. He also became proficient in various types of Laz weaponry, in keeping with the Orbital’s specialization.

Despite Tybalt’s devoted performance within the Mechanicus, the Deacons of the Orbital did have one major concern about his behavior, in particular his unwillingness to embrace the more obvious physical gifts of the Omnissiah, such as prosthetic limbs and Mechadendrites. In order to cure him of this unorthodox stance, Tybalt has been assigned to the Inquisition. It is hoped that a period of service away from the Tech-Cathedrals will bring Tybalt deeper understanding on the Machine God’s gifts or at the very least seeing his implants returned in a salvageable state. Either way, it saves loss of face Tybalt’s mentors.

Like all Tech-Priests, Tybalt does have a certain degree of augmentation:

Electro-Graft – Tybalt has a spinal jack located between his shouler blades. This placement does require him to remove his robe for access, but renders it well hidden.

Electroo Inductors – These make up Tybalt’s most obvious modifications. two concentric silver bands are clearly visible on each palm, with broad silver strips running to each finger tip and following the path of his arm veins. On his chest, they form a complex geometric pattern before merging with his other implants.

Resperator/Vox – No visible machinery. (Note: Note sure if this is possible with the minimalist vibe)

Cybermantal and Potential Coil – Two of the key Tech-Priest implants are housed in a flexible, ribbed, plastic casing which extends from Tybalt’s waist to just about the base of his sternum, extending to circle his mid-body. It is fitted with some auxiliary ports and appears to merge seamlessly with the surrounding skin.

Cranial Circuitry – Uncommonly for a Tech-Priest of his rank, Tybalt’s cranial augmentations are not visible. Standard additions have been made however, with some equipment contained within his Cybermantal casing.

When questioned regarding his lack of implants, Tybalt often responds to other Tech-Priests that in order to properly serve the Omnissiah, he must only improve his body, and thus will not accept poorer, more readily available implants. In truth is influenced by the rural environment he was brought up in, the genetic (as opposed to machine) enhancements of his first mentor and desire to discover a new piece of the STC which he may incorporate into himself.
The question of a Tech-Priest’s modifications are not a matter for discussion with those outside the Machine Cult, or with those of a lesser rank.
