Rogue Trader Character Profile: Serafina Heinstein-Fueller

I got a little bit carried away when I was writing my character bio for Rogue Trader. I quite like the idea of a megalomanic heretic who believes she can fix the entire Imperium.

Background

During the period in which The Tempest (the Party’s ship) was commandeered by the Mechanicus, a member of the Heinstein-Fueller dynasty who had demonstrated a rapport with the Machine Spirit was invited to join the Adaptus Mechanicus for training. Upon the completion of the voyage, he accepted.
In time, his background as a Rogue Trader and natural ability as an Engineseer allowed him to ascend the ranks of the Mechanicus, eventually becoming an influential negotiator between Rogue Traders and the Machine Cult.

Over time, he had children, and his line persisted to demonstrate a natural affinity for dealing with the Machine spirits.
There have been aberrations in the line however.

Serafina, like her siblings and predecessors, was raised to become a member of Cult from birth. Like all Forge World wards, she was filled with the light of the Omnissiah. Unlike, most of her peers, she did not acknowledge the role of the God-Emperor in her life at all.

This heresy is not unusual within the Mechanicus, and efforts are made to hide those who are worth saving from the baleful eye of the Inquisition, the Church and the Arbites. Indeed, it is said that Mars holds some of the most dangerous Heretics in the Imperium, many of whom hold high office.
Serfina, despite being deemed worthy of retaining, did manage to attract the attention of the Inquisition due to repeated attempts to access Standard Template Constructs and data relating to the Golden Throne as well as ‘unsubstantiated’ rumors regarding it’s failure. This resulted in forceful extraction from The Lathes and an extended voyage on an Inquisition vessel.

The Tech Priests were eventually able to retrieve Serafina, ascertaining that in her search for information relating to the Golden Throne she had amassed a vast knowledge of Archotech. Her experiences at the hands of Inquisitor Aphasia had left her mentally and physically fractured. Shortly after her return to the Lathes, she was fitted with a Memorance Unit in her ruined right eye-socket with ornately decorated metal plating covering the upper right-side of her skill from below eye level.

Having never given up the belief that the Golden Throne was failing and that it and the God-Emperor could be replaced with something more functional, Serafina threw herself into the study of another heretical area: the Webways of the Eldar. When she requested the use of a ship and a crew of Explorators, her superiors were only too glad to be rid of this dangerous but useful intellect.
They were less glad when Serafina returned several years later, with her ship in ruins and the majority of her crew dead thanks to a disastrous reaction while trying to disassemble a piece of Xenotech and accidentally opening a gateway to the Warp. Once again, Serafina was mentally scarred, but resolute in her belief that Xenotech was the solution to supplanting the Golden Throne.

With the Inquisition, the Imperial Navy and members of the Mechanicus asking some rather unpleasant questions regarding exactly where Serafina is and what she’s doing, the Mechanicus thought it best to remove her. Her knowledge of Xenotech and Archotech, and her passion for both made her too valuable to execute, turn over to the Inquisition or mind-clense.
Instead, her father contacted his now rather distant cousin, Anastasia Fueller requesting indefinite passage for his daughter.

Serafina is currently an unwelcome presence in Imperium Space, effectively exiled. However, she has standing orders to collect and catalogue Xeno- and Archo-tech. Unbeknownst to her, there is hope amongst her superiors she might find something useful in the quest to repair the Golden Throne.
Additional standing orders: The Ordo Xenos, who are aware of her previous mission, have requested information on any Xenos contact and weaponry encountered. Serafina makes them a bit uneasy, but is useful as an information gatherer.
In addition to this, like all Mechanicus, Serafina believes it is her duty to help rediscover the Standard Template Constructs.

As a parting gift, Serafina’s father gave her a hereditary Servo Skull. This small, floating servitor is crafted from the skull of a Magno Crydom heretek and has been in the family for generations. It’s name is Gaius.
